About the Author

My name is Saul Remi Hernandez and I am the principal author of The Catholic Steps. I had help. Most notably from the Holy Spirit, who chose to express himself concretely through two Catholic Clergymen. One in Vermont and another in Louisiana. Credit must also be given to the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, without which I might not be writing to you now.

I was born in Lafayette, Louisiana. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Physics, both from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. I have worked in the oilfield. I've taught at universities, high schools, and even one middle school. At my core, I'm a teacher. I'm also a bit of an adventure addict and missionary work is my true medicine. I love it.

I now live and work in Steubenville, Ohio where I tutor Physics online. My passion is leading people to the Eucharist and I consider it my responsibility to make Catholics of all nations. I won't soften it. I also consider it your responsibility. This was the last thing Jesus commanded before departing earth.

About This Site

I created the system you are on right now. I used Manus A.I. (owned by Meta) to build the site. First and foremost, safety has been the lens through which every decision was made. For example, you may notice that there is a field to put your diocese, but not your parish. That was intentional. On average, there are approximately 100 parishes in every diocese. It would essentially be impossible for a bad actor to track you down with your diocesan information alone.

Regarding security, on your profile page there is a toggle button for 'Anonymity Mode.' If you just want to use the site and not be found, be sure to leave that on. If you are interested in being found for fellowship, you can leave it off. If this toggle is turned off, then your profile is public and searchable by others on the site. By now, most of you are aware of online safety practices. I would just like to echo one sentiment: Evil exists. Satan exists. Demons exist. They inhabit people. The notes that you input on your Steps pages can only be seen by you. Not by anyone else. If inputting sensitive information on the internet still bothers you, which is understandable, the book is available for purchase on Barnes & Noble for $17. And through your holiness, evangelization. The two go hand in hand and you'll see that as you move forward through the Steps.
